THIS MEETING HAS BEEN TEMPORARILY POSTPONED DUE TO PENDING LITIGATION.
The first Volleyball board representative meeting will take place on January 31, 2010 at the UIL office located at 1701 Manor Rd., Austin, TX 78722. All volleyball chapters who have signed a letter of intent AND registered with the UIL (between January 15th and January 30th) will select a board representative for their chapter. The board representatives will meet at the UIL office to discuss topics pertinent to all aspects of volleyball officiating in Texas.
Please contact the UIL office (officials@mail.uil.utexas.edu) when your representative is chosen. We are also soliciting agenda items from the representatives for this all important meeting. Some suggested agenda items could be but are not limited to:

Assist in the planning of practical clinics and other training programs for officials.

Determine categories or ranking for officials if any (Division I. – V or Registered, Certified or Professional, etc.)

Develop a policies and procedures manual for all Chapters (required attendance at meetings, test scores required to be eligible to officiate regular scheduled games and recommend test score needed to officiate in State Playoffs etc.).

Develop a document for member schools on Hosting Officials. (This material will be mailed from the UIL office as suggested procedures and services from the UIL and the local chapters. This will include bylaws and several policies from the UIL Constitution. (Protection for officials and visiting teams, etc.)

Develop bylaws and policies for non-renewal of officials and state level policies for officials.

Suggest ideas to improve lines of communication among the UIL, chapter officers, coaches and officials.

Develop a pay plan to recommend to the UIL Legislative Committee. A meeting will be held with a UIL Committee of superintendents, athletic directors and other school administrators to determine the pay plan for officiating games.

Recommend and develop tools for evaluating officials during the regular season and the post season.

Recommend policies and procedures for scratching an official from a game.

Recommend officials and/or retired officials to be considered for a position as State Rules Interpreter and for rule interpreters for each local chapter.

Recommend policies and procedures for an appeals process from any rulings by the chapter or the state office.

Recommend officials or retired officials from each chapter to serve as evaluators of officials from the local chapter. On occasion these evaluators may be asked to observe officials at playoff games.
Decisions made at the January 31st meeting will be applicable for all volleyball officials in the state of Texas for the season of 2010-2011.
